Humphries thrashes Van Gerwen in whitewash win, set to face Lukeman in German Darts Grand Prix final –

There will be a new champion on the European Tour this evening at the German Darts Grand Prix with Michael van Gerwen’s reign as the king of Munich coming crashing down in some style.

Luke Humphries did what Van Gerwen has done to many in previous years on the European Tour by producing a stunning whitewash win.

Van Gerwen averaged only 90 with only one dart at double throughout the contest compared to three 180’s, a 107 average and 7/12 from ‘Cool Hand Luke’

Back-to-back 15-darters showed ominous signs early on for Humphries who began with a 109 checkout and an 80 to break. He consolidated and pounced to seal a double break with Van Gerwen not getting out of second gear pinning a 98 checkout.

An 11-dart hold followed in the form of an 81 checkout before another break almost sealed Van Gerwen’s fate.

A 134 and 123 start on Humphries throw with Van Gerwen unable to pressure allowed Humphries multiple match darts but he pinned it second time of asking on double four to seal it in double quick time.
