Wayne Mardle is going up against Mark Webster in this season’s Premier League Darts predictions – and has started well

For this year’s Premier League Darts predictions, we have pitched Wayne Mardle against Mark Webster – and Webby is on the comeback trail.

For the first time this season, Webster claimed a victory, correctly predicting wins for Michael van Gerwen and Dimitri van Bergh. Sadly for the former BDO world champion, so did Mardle.

With the pair locked on two points after the first three matches on Wednesday, it came down to the final contests of the evening. Neither of our experts saw a victory for Nathan Aspinall over James Wade, so the differential came when Jonny Clayton fired in a perfect night-dart leg in victory over Jose de Sousa.

Fellow Welshman Webster was delighted as it gave him a 3-2 victory on the night, after 7-0 and 6-5 defeats on the opening two nights.

Night Four predictions

It should be said that both men appear to be taking this very seriously, and Mardle’s first thought out of the commentary box on the Sky Sports balcony at the Marshall Arena is: ‘What did Webby have?’

A comeback has to start somewhere and after Wednesday’s showing, Webster has reduced the eight-point deficit on Mardle. It might be just one point but it’s the first step in chipping away at Hawaii 501’s advantage.

Premier League predictions: Mardle vs Webster

Wayne Mardle Mark Webster
13 Pts after Night Three 5
7-4 Dimitri Van den Bergh vs Peter Wright 6-6
7-5 Jonny Clayton vs Rob Cross 6-6
7-5 Jose de Sousa vs Nathan Aspinall 7-4
4-7 James Wade vs Michael van Gerwen 4-7
7-3 Gary Anderson vs Glen Durrant 7-3

So where can Webster make up the difference on Thursday? Games One and Two are his best hope where our man playing catch-up has gone for draws between Clayton and Rob Cross plus Van den Bergh and Peter Wright, while Mardle has victories for the Belgian and the Ferret.

The other three matches have both men picking the same outcome with a 7-4 win for Van Gerwen, and a 7-3 win for Gary Anderson. Both men – perhaps surprisingly – have Jose de Sousa taking both points against The Asp – but with scorelines different, it might be decisive.
